Throughout the ages, blacksmiths or smithies, have defined custom metal fabrication as the process
of cutting, heating, forming and welding of metal
pieces into a desired form. Even long ago,
horseshoeing was only a small part of what a blacksmith did
on a daily basis. Most blacksmiths helped their community with creating
metal machinery or repairing metal farming or homesteading
implements needed in day-to-day chores or travel.
The challenge
then is in the design and scope of the metal fabrication project. Some antique
designs involve
many curves, angles and twists in repeating patterns. Others reflect a sleek or simple design such as one that would
complement a Frank Lloyd Wright prairie style home.
It's not hard to
realize custom metal fabrication at this level is
time consuming. The final product makes no
difference; a custom six foot fence panel or unique six foot sign,
the process is the same. It's always about the metal challenge
for Ted and his crew. Given experience and know-how, the metal
always yields to the needs of the blacksmith.
