When
Wasco Elementary wanted a custom designed iron sculpture for
their Centennial celebration, who do you think they called? The
Wasco Blacksmith, of course!
Just as they wanted, Ted
created a unique iron sculpture depicting a Conestoga wagon wheel.
Steel had to be custom roll-formed in
Wisconsin and
delivered to the blacksmith before he could begin his work.
The iron works sculpture is
six foot in diameter. The tire portion of the wheel
is 3/8" thick and six inches square. Simulated wood grain
was engraved
into the wheel. Because of its weight, a crane was used to
position the iron wheel just outside the entrance to the
school. A couple of hours later the dedication
ceremony began and then closed with a few words from the
blacksmith himself.
